BISMARCK, ND – The North Dakota Industrial Commission today approved over $12.5 million in Outdoor Heritage Fund matching grants for 17 conservation and recreation projects benefiting North Dakotans across the state. The funding for this program, generated from oil and gas production tax revenue, supports projects that improve access to public and private lands for sportsmen and women, farming and ranching stewardship practices, fish and wildlife habitat preservation and outdoor recreation areas.
“The projects approved today embody the mission of this impactful program by enhancing conservation practices and creating new opportunities for North Dakotans to enjoy outdoor recreation activities” said Commission members in a joint statement. “We appreciate the efforts of the applicants in developing these projects and their dedication to improving quality of life for citizens across our great state.”
The approved projects total $12,549,185. They include:
- $2.5 million to the North Dakota Conservation District Employees Association for its North Dakota Statewide Tree Planting Initiative.
- $900,000 to the North Dakota Forest Service for its North Dakota Statewide Windbreak Renovation Initiative 5.0.
- $251,250 to the Grand Forks Park District for its Ryan Lake Prairie Trail and Outdoor Classroom.
- $155,450 to the City of Grand Forks for its Rivers Edge Fishing Enhancement Project.
- $51,599 to McLean County Water Resource District for its Lost Lake Dam Fish Passage.
- $1,089,375 to Pheasants Forever for its Public Access to Habitat (PATH) Program.
- $521,250 to the Fargo Park District for its Fargo Southwest Pond Regional Recreation Area.
- $1 million to the North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department for state park enhancement projects.
- $936,000 to Ducks Unlimited Inc. for its Cover Crop and Livestock Integration Project 4.
- $70,978 to the North Dakota 4-H Foundation for its 4-H Camp Project.
- $68,522 to the Nature Conservancy for its Grazing Management and Habitat Enhancement Project.
- $483,924 to Ducks Unlimited Inc. for its Smart Livestock Advancing Terrestrial Ecosystems Project.
- $580,000 to the United Prairie Foundation for its Grazed Wildlife Habitat – Meadowlark Initiative.
- $445,000 to North Dakota Natural Resources Trust for its Wildlife and Livestock Dams – Wetlands Creation, Restoration, and Enhancement III Project.
- $1,950,000 to North Dakota Natural Resources Trust for its Grazing Resiliency in North Dakota Project.
- $1.5 million to North Dakota Game and Fish for its Western North Dakota Private Land Open to Sportsmen (PLOTS) project.
- $45,837 to the City of Flasher for its Historical Recreation Trail.
