INDUSTRIAL COMMISSION AWARDS $1,666,000 IN OUTDOOR HERITAGE FUNDS

BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota Industrial Commission today approved $1,666,000 in Outdoor Heritage Fund matching grants for four conservation and recreation projects benefiting North Dakotans across the state. The funding, generated from oil and gas production tax revenue, supports projects such as access to public and private lands for sportsmen, farming and ranching stewardship practices, fish and wildlife habitat preservation and outdoor recreation areas.

“These projects will make a lasting impact on the landscape of rural North Dakota,” said Commission members in a joint statement. “We appreciate the work of the applicants in developing these projects and working to improve the quality of life for all North Dakotans.”

The projects approved include:

  • $985,000 – North Dakota Natural Resources Trust: Provide cost-share for fencing and water developments to assist landowners in transitioning expired CRP into agricultural production.
  • $371,000 – North Dakota Petroleum Foundation: Provide trees and shrubs for large-scale planting projects to private landowners and city and county parks. Approximately 70,000 trees will be planted.
  • $300,000 – North Dakota Department of Agriculture: Protect and improve soil health by providing cost-share for the planting of cover crops.
  • $10,000 – City of Coleharbor: New playground equipment for the city park.

The Industrial Commission, which oversees the Outdoor Heritage Fund, consists of Gov. Doug Burgum as chairman, Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring.

The next submission deadline for grant applications from state agencies, tribal governments, political subdivisions, and non-profit organizations is March 1, 2022.
