BISMARCK, ND - The North Dakota Industrial Commission, comprised of Gov. Kelly Armstrong, Attorney General Drew Wrigley and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring, approved $2.6 million in matching grants in the latest round of grid resiliency funding under Section 40101(d) of the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL).
The objective of the program, which has a funding composition of 85% federal and 15% state funds, is to improve the resilience of the electric grid against disruptive events caused by extreme weather, wildfire or natural disasters
The approved grid resilience projects include:
- $515,900 to McLean Electric Cooperative for upgrading oil circuit reclosers to dielectric reclosers
- $2,086,456 to Montana Dakota Utilities for its “Merricourt Sub-Transmission Upgrade” project
“We commend the project sponsors for their investments in energy resiliency,” the Commission said in a joint statement. “The projects approved today demonstrate North Dakota’s commitment to remaining at the forefront of energy transmission security, reliability and innovation.”
