Renewable Energy Program

BISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota Industrial Commission has approved $500,000 in Renewable Energy Program funds to Hankinson Renewable Energy (HRE) for the installation of a Stack Heat Recovery (SHR) system. This technology will capture excess heat energy released from the plant’s dryer exhaust stack and recycle the heat back into the production process. In addition, the system will collect water condensation from the dryer exhaust stack for use in the plant operations. The project is expected to increase ethanol production at HRE by an estimated 10 million gallons per year.

In a joint statement the Commission stated, “This innovative technology will increase ethanol production and demand for corn which will create additional revenue in the state while reducing the usage of water and natural gas.”

The North Dakota Industrial Commission, consisting of Gov. Doug Burgum as chairman, Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring, oversees the Renewable Energy Program.

The Legislature established the program in 2007 to provide funding for research, development, marketing and education to foster growth of renewable energy including wind, biofuels, biomass, solar, hydroelectric, geothermal and hydrogen.

The next application deadline for the program is August 1, 2019.
