Categories: Industrial Commission, Press Release, Renewable Energy ProgramBISMARCK, N.D. – The North Dakota Industrial Commission (Commission) has awarded $500,000 in Renewable Energy Program matching funds to the Energy & Environmental Research Center, for work toward the development of the first integrated North Dakota ethanol and carbon capture and storage (CCS) facility. The proposed research will use the Red Trail Energy ethanol facility near Richardton, ND, as a case study, building on the successful outcomes of three phases of work since 2016. A CO2 Storage Facility Permitting Guidance Document will be compiled as part of the project to serve as a resource for other North Dakota renewable energy or biofuel producers interested in pursuing utilization of CCS technology.

The project includes a renewable energy strategy with the addition of a geothermal ground source heat pump and the engineering of an electrical/mechanical energy corridor which will allow for adding other renewable energy options to the home.

This project will simplify the manufacturing and assembly of the portable solar power units as well as achieve compliance certifications.

Categories: Industrial Commission, Press Release, Renewable Energy ProgramThe North Dakota Industrial Commission has approved $500,000 in Renewable Energy Program funds to Hankinson Renewable Energy (HRE) for the installation of a Stack Heat Recovery (SHR) system. This technology will capture excess heat energy released from the plant’s dryer exhaust stack and recycle the heat back into the production process. In addition, the system will collect water condensation from the dryer exhaust stack for use in the plant operations. The project is expected to increase ethanol production at HRE by an estimated 10 million gallons per year.
